Maria-Aurelia Riese was born in Vienna, Austria in 1972 and moved to the UK in 1993. She now lives and works in West Sussex.

Maria received a Degree in Fine Art Photography from the Vienna Higher Institute of Graphic Arts  and now specialises in traditional black and white processing techniques.

Since moving to the UK she has exhibited in joint shows at the Pallant House Gallery, where she was the winner of the in-house exhibition in 2008, and at the Arden and Anstruther Gallery.

Nationally, Maria’s work has been recognized in the 2010 National Open Art Competition, where she was awarded 1st Prize in the Photographic category.

She is greatly inspired by the community workshops that she runs for various organisations throughout the south of England, including the Pallant House Gallery, Creative Response and the National Autistic Society.
